Funding for transportation projects has already been made available; hasn't been used wisely, efficiently

Editor:

I would like to encourage every voter to do a little research on the taxes that they pay, what they are supposed to pay for, and what they actually pay for. If you do this and find as I did, that we have already paid enough in transportation taxes to build the roads that we need.

These transportation funds have been diverted to pay for other projects, and budget shortfalls. I would encourage everyone to contact their representatives, and ask them why. Nothing makes a politician feel more useful than answering questions for the voters!

It has been said that by voting no for the tax referendum we are telling lawmakers that we don't want new roads. We need to let them know that they are mistaken, we do want new roads, but we're not stupid enough to vote yes and pay for them twice.

Gov. Warner wants suggestions as to what to do about the roads, I would suggest that the transportation taxes already being collected, such as the thirty cent tax on a gallon of gasoline, be used to build roads. If he still feels that a separate road fund is necessary, I agree, we could then put the money currently being collected in it.

I was not inferring that the people that voted yes are stupid, just uninformed. The vote YE$ campaign leadership, has vowed to thwart the will of the voters, if they mean that they wish to chip in and pay for the proposed road package then I would like to thank them for their generosity.

If they mean that they will try another way to get me to pay for this road package, then I wish them luck.

I would encourage everyone to keep up with what your representatives are doing, and let them know what you think.

Thank You For Your Time
